I know that my family was very busy!! but we enjoyed a much needed break from school. Now we are back into our first full week. In Fundations this week, we are continuing to tap out words to read, I challenged all students to try and write in their journals independently today. Most did very well. We also talked about the things we need to remember when writing (spaces between words, period at the end, capital at the beginning, using the Fundations lines for letter writing, etc...). We have also been working on story recall using the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Everyone was able to tell me things from the story but not necessarily from the beginning, middle, and then end. It was Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2 (and Kaleb's!) and we are reading, playing games, creating projects with the Dr. Seuss theme. Last week, we read The Cat in the Hat. This week, we are reading Green Eggs and Ham, ABC, There's a Wocket in my Pocket, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and many more! We will create our own Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's, put together Dr. Seuss puzzles, graph goldfish crackers, design our own fish, and make a Fish book. In math this week, we will be creating tile designs using 6 tiles, talking about what our designs look like, and recording our designs. We continue to work on rote counting, skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, what number comes before and after a number, estimation, and grouping of numbers. This week, I am sending home the estimation jar with one student at a time. Please have your child count out a collection of objects from home (rocks, macaroni, hair clips, pennies, cars, etc...) and put them in the jar. No more than 30 please! We will estimate how many are inside and I will return the items the same day. Reminders: Report Cards sent home March 24 Half day of school March 25 No school March 26
