H1N1 Vaccine Information

E-mail Print

October 9, 2009

Dear Parents,

SATEC has been working with the Vermont Department of Health to coordinate school-based H1N1 flu vaccination clinics. SATEC will be offering the H1N1 vaccine to our students this fall. Due to our large school population the clinic will be run by the Department of Health. The first clinic will be held at SATEC on Monday, November 9th during the school day. The second clinic will be held on Tuesday, December 8th. Please be advised that the dates of the clinics are subject to change based on coordination of staff from the Department of Health and availability of vaccination. Here are a few things parents should know about the H1N1 influenza clinics:

1- The vaccines are voluntary. Students will receive a vaccination with your written consent only.

2- The vaccination is provided free of charge.

3- Parents who wish to be present when their child receives their vaccination should schedule a time with your healthcare provider. Parents will not be able to be present with their children at the school based clinics due to space and time constraints.

4- If you give written consent and your child refuses then they will not be given the flu shot.

5- Students ages 9 and under will need two vaccinations.

6- Students ages 10 and up will only need one vaccination.

7-community H1N1 vaccination clinics will be offered free of charge in locations throughout the state. Once scheduled, you will be able to locate clinics in our community by dialing 2-1-1, or by visiting the Health Department’s Flu Clinic Finder at: www.healthvermont.gov/prevent/flu.

You will find attached a letter from the Superintendent of Schools, a letter from the Commissioner of Health and the Commissioner of Education, the H1N1 Vaccine Information Statement and an H1N1 Influenza Vaccine Consent Form. Please complete the form, whether or not you want your child vaccinated and return it to the SATEC main office by October 14.

If you have questions about the vaccine, please call your child’s healthcare provider.

Sincerely,

Angela Stebbins
Principal
